Have a Hearth! Decorate Your Mantel for Valentine’s Day
Your fireplace surround can serve as a charming focal point year-round. It being early in the year, if you have a hearth, decorate your mantel for Valentine’s Day! Our chimney sweeps at Mercer County Chimney Service are CSIA-certified, but we aren’t too into our industry to think of the romantic side of fireplaces. We think February 14 is a perfect time to capitalize on fireplaces’ reputation for sparking things up — other than logs.
Fixing up a fireplace Valentine’s Day theme can be relatively effortless, since decorative offerings are easy to find, whether at Hobby Lobby or on Etsy. Some ideas for a Valentine’s Day mantel are outlined below.
An Antique Valentine’s Day Mantel
If you share a love of valuable old things with your Valentine, antique mantel décor in neutral colors may be perfect for inspiring romance. The backdrop can be as simple as propping an old-fashioned cabinet door, antique mirror, and frame from olden times at the back of your mantel. On one side, add a charming shadeless antique lamp.
On the mantel’s forefront, add splashes of color with stemless roses set in tiny brass candleholders of varying heights. Drape a vintage heart garland across the mantel’s front for the perfect coup de grâce.
A Cozy Farmhouse Valentine’s Day Mantel
For a fun, bold Valentine’s Day fireplace in a farmhouse motif, begin by hanging a small, round or heart-shaped red-and-pink wreath above the mantel. On one side, hang two wooden hearts, whether pink, red, or neutral-colored. To the left, hang a small canvas with appropriate “heart” words or a phrase, such as “Be Mine.”
Layer a collection of eye-pleasing items on the mantel below. These items might include a quirky wooden piece you find at an antique store to provide a horizontal element. Small red lanterns with candles, unique candlesticks, and a jar filled with small stuffed hearts are ideal for this style. At the front, create a layered look with three hanging garlands that complement the overall look.
On the hearth floor, add various red or heart-shaped elements, such as a large white vase with red flowers or something else in a creative design; an off-white blanket with heart-shaped accents in a basket; and possibly a small antique iron bird cage.

More Rustic Pieces for a Valentine’s Mantel
Framed hearts, various candles, wooden symbols like X’s and O’s for hugs and kisses, decorative wine bottles, leafy garlands across a mantel’s front with a beaded garland hanging below, antique mirrors, and varieties of eye-pleasing antique books, candleholders, plants, and vases are among the Valentine’s Day mantel decorations that could set off a fun, romantic, or elegant style.
