There are many benefits of an annual chimney sweep and chimney inspection. What is the difference between the two?
Chimney Sweep- What to expect with a chimney sweep? You can plan on a visit of about 30-45 minutes. Once you have made an appointment with Mercer County Chimney Service you can expect that on the day of your appointment, we will be at your house on time. We will drape the inside of your home near the fireplace, protecting your furniture and any decorations or flooring nearby. Using tools to accommodate any size or style of the chimney, we will brush out the flue and work our way up your chimney in the same manner. We will scrape the sides and clean out any creosote that has accumulated. Any debris that falls in the firebox will be swept or vacuumed up. While cleaning out, we may encounter small animals or debris that have either died within the chimney or have left remains. All this debris can cause fires if not cleaned out regularly.
Once our professional completes the task, we will clean everything up, leaving you with a clean chimney. You will experience a more efficient fire with a clear passage to the outside. We recommend booking your next appointment. Sweeps get busy as the seasons progress. Getting on our schedule will save you the worry that you didn’t get your annual sweep.
Chimney Inspection– So what is the difference? What should I expect from a Chimney inspection? With a Chimney inspection, our technician will oversee the chimney’s structure. We want to make sure your chimney and fireplace are operating efficiently. Inspections are conducted on three different levels.
- Level 1 – This is an overall verification that your chimney is structurally sound. Our technician will alert you of any concerns that they may see.
- Level 2 – This inspection is usually done when you are selling or purchasing a house. A real estate inspection does not have the tools to do a complete chimney inspection.
- Level 3 – This is a much more involved inspection. Technicians may be required to go behind the walls near the fireplace. We are checking for dangerous or hazardous conditions.
